Chennai Day

On 22.08.16 chennai celebrated its 377 birthday.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHENNAI.  I saw the old images of chennai first during my college days, from then i am fond of the history behind madras city. This has routed deep in to me and i am truly inspired to live in the old city 'Madras pattnam', the city with two beautiful rivers adayar and coovam, trams as a mean of transport, boating in clear waters of buchingham canel. Chennai, the city formend by Britishers, had near by villages like triplicane, mylapore, thiruvatriyur etc... which on years has become a part of the city. This city has a very sound British culture in past, its heritage is still seen through the old British buildings. Rippon building, victoria hall, the senate house, presidency college, Central & Southern railways building are namely few. In the same time this city has also preserved its old Indian heritage during British era.. It houses very old Indian monuments like kapaleeshware temple, parthasarathy temple etc.

Rightly said by Chairman, INTEC in his interview to BIG FM, "Chennai an 377 year old young city has 3000 years old heritage".

How far we are responsible for maintaining this heritage of our city. Are we doing justice.. We have polluted the city given to us by our preceding generation 4 decades ago. Now what will be the face of this city when we give it to our next generation. Don't we need our children and grand children to live in a good and clean city, which was once respected equal to the Paris and London in 1940's. What are we going to do...??

The first city of modern India, Chennai, is celebrating its 378th birthday today, as Chennai, then Madras was founded on 22 August, 1639.  Rechristened as Chennai in 1996, the capital of Tamil Nadu is now home to more than 6 million people.  The idea of Madras Day was born when a group of Madras lovers got together 12 years ago to celebrate the city, its history, traditions and culture.  Madras is one of the oldest cities.  Kolkata is 50 years younger than Madras and Bombay is about 35 years younger.  And it was here that almost virtually everything in modern India began - the first municipality, as early as in 1688, the first technical college - Guindy engg college in 1794, first shopping mall Spencer's in 1863,  the first cricket club in India set up here in 1846, and the list of firsts continue with first big library in Connemara, first big book store in Higginbothams, country's oldest railway station in Royapuram, first public zoo in the country in Vandalur etc. 400 temples, 200 churches n 200 mosques are here, 35000 people get employed newly every year in the city;  Asia's biggest IT park is here in Tidal park, Asia's biggest bus stand is here in Koyamedu ; it's one of the safest cities to live with excellent medical facilities; New York Times in its survey of best places to visit included only Chennai in its list of 52 cities in South Asia, Forbes magazine reports Chennai as one of the top 10 cities which grows fast.  In December 2015 floods, Chennai showed to the rest of the world what is humanity n solidarity - without any barriers of cast, creed, rich or poor, people just rallied around and helped each other; It's the place where people claim to be not mine or yours or his/her - but " ours " - namma Ooru Chennaiku oru periya whistle podu😤😤; Happy Birthday Chennai, love u loads😍😍
